Microneedling

Collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling, is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure used for it’s powerful anti-aging and anti-scarring effects.

Microneedling repairs damaged skin through a series of micro-injuries. The body’s natural healing process is activated, and cytokines and growth factors stimulate the remodeling of collagen and elastin.

The Benefits of Microneeding

Microneeding is among the most in-demand skin rejuvenation procedures available today. The procedure is not associated with any major side effects, and results appear within a period of weeks. Additional benefits of the microneedling procedure include the following:

  • Reduced appearance of scars, including those caused by surgery or acne (we frequently use microneedling after Mohs surgery for skin cancer removal).

  • Reversal of sun damage and pigmentation

  • Decreased pore size

  • Decreased appearance of stretch marks

Microneedling treatments typically take as little as 30 minutes, depending on the number, size and degree of treatment requested. The procedure can be performed on any part of the body in need of repair, including the legs, chest, back and buttocks.

How Does the Procedure Work?

During treatment, a pen-like device uses thin needles to create a series of micro-injuries to the skin, with depths varying from 0.25 mm to 2 mm. A topical anesthetic is applied to the skin prior to the procedure to reduce discomfort.

Our clinic uses Skinceuticals® products before and after microneedling (and other facial procedures). Skinceuticals® uses only pharmaceutical-grade ingredients and expert formulations that have undergone extensive safety testing.

Healing Process and Recovery

The healing and recovery process varies slightly by person and total treatment time, but it includes:

  • An initial reddish pigmentation is present for 24-48 hours after the procedure

  • The immune system rebuilds the wound with temporary collagen and elastin

  • Dermal tissues and blood vessel form, and temporary collage is replaced with permanent collagen

Most people return to work immediately, but it is best to avoid sun exposure for 24 hours after the procedure. Find out if a microneedling treatment is right for you by scheduling your consultation with a Master Aesthetician today.
